    Recommended subwoofer for Altec Fourteen?

    hello folks
    junior s madisound sub bottoms out when he listens to some bassheavy tracks and he wonders what could be used as a suitable sub;
    either something "commersial" or some "homebrew" solution
    size up to 10-15 cubicfeet is ok, but preferably hi-eff
    one is probably sufficient for crossing so low, or?
    all suggestions welcome

    Hello Leif,

    Does this person really require a subwoofer or do they just need more bass?
    Nothing like a great big pair of speakers to make your day.

    my son likes to play load and clean
    and the speakers are used for music,films and gaming so Yes I think he requires a sub that can take some serious beating without ruining the impression from the Fourteens

    will check out the 3184

    The 3184 strikes me as a woofer not a sub but it would sure work for me. If she goes down to 40Hz and the cabinet is not monstrous then that's just fine for all but the most extreme sound track.

    The 3184 by Altec now produced by GPA is a very efficient sub will reproduce the lowest organ notes. If you want your CD's to sound like a Hollywood film I would add the Subharmonic processor .
